Flashback Friday

I recently went on a scanning-in spree.  When I scanned my nieces work on Wednesday I also scanned in a ton of my black and white prints from the past 8 years that I’ve been printing in b&w.  Here are a couple prints from my first year in a b&w photography course in high school.

Warning- the scan quality is crap and picked up ALL the dust ever on the scanner not to mention created patterned lines on the prints, some of the prints were spot toned too which makes it especially annoying that the scanner added specs.

originally assigned as a "surrealism" shot, we later learned how to hand color photos with oil tints, the same type of tinting you would see on photos from the earlier half of the 1900s
this print was originally kind of muddy and had more cloud detail but me being the first year student wanted to make it more dramatic, thus the minute long burn-ins on the top and bottom
my sister on the phone with her estranged 'baby daddy' I loved this shot because the mood in the picture accurately describes what she deals with. i love my sister.
when I say portraits are not my strong-suit I mean it, this is probably the best portrait I've ever taken and it was in '03, this is my lovely niece E

So there you have it, a taste of my first prints I was proud to call my own, from my first year as a photography student.  I remember being SO PROUD of these shots and prints when I first did them in an hour long photo class and now I obsess over prints for HOURS in the dark room until they are right and even then I’m still not satisfied.  Its weird how we grow.

Have a good weekend everyone, I’ll be around. <3
