My first vision board experience

In the early days of January I had the pleasure of joining a small group extraordinary women to create our vision boards for 2024. They had done this for 2023 and were discussing their year-end wins at a mutual friends birthday party and were kind enough to invite me to join them for this coming year. Anyone who knows me closely, knows that I’m generally skittish about trying new things socially, but this year I really wanted to expand my circle of friends with folks who are also growth-minded. I’m so glad I took this leap of faith for myself.

We arranged to meet at a local restaurant that had a private room available for us to occupy and the plan was: vision boarding, dinner, and then dancing and drinks after. One by one we all showed up and let me be the first to say, every single one of us brought the heat! It was so lovely seeing everyone dolled up, and after my recent fitness and weight changes, it was nice to dress up and feel confident again.

We kicked off the session by catching up over drinks and appetizers. One by one we all went around the table and shared some our recent “wins” with each other. Nothing warms my heart more than women supporting women. I truly believe there is room for everyone “at the top” and I love to watch those around me succeed in life. Every win we celebrated around that table felt personal.

After dinner we went around the table again and shared what our focus or mantra would be for this coming year’s vision. With a mix of women from different cultures, backgrounds, and periods of life, it was really refreshing to hear others explain with a spark in their eyes what they wanted their 2024 to look like. We even helped counsel a friend who was struggling in a personal area of her life and was having a difficult time defining what she wanted for herself this year.

I left this session buzzing. I cannot put into words how refreshing and inspiring it was to be around a bunch of women who were smart, loving, successful, driven, and most of all, supportive of each other. Honestly, thinking back on that night sustained my buzz for months afterwards. That night crystalized something in me that I had been struggling to come to terms with during the aftermath of going through arguably the worst season in my life and coming out of it. I needed more of these types of gatherings and energy in my life. More on that later.

I’m not going to share my full vision board for 2024 but I’ll share my top highlights. I opted to do mine digitally versus the traditional paper board and cutouts route. I know how I operate and having to frame and hang something in my room was just not gonna happen. Since the point of doing a vision board is to put it somewhere you’ll see it every day, I chose to make a desktop background and phone background for mine. I even made a safe-for-work version too!

Maybe its cause Barbie was top of mind, or because I’ve always been a hot pink kinda girl, but my board went very girly and I love it. Some top highlights and goals of mine were:

  • Grow the booty (I’ve been working out and losing weight so this ones important to me).
  • Travel more, specifically to see two friends out of state.
  • Learn to ride a horse!
  • Work on putting more effort into my physical appearance (like learning to do my hair and makeup properly for once).
  • Spend more time with friends and my cousins.

I think my biggest take away from this experience was actually just getting to experience a rock solid girl gang again. It had been a while since I felt this energy of women supporting women. It even inspired me to try to find this for myself locally… more on that later.

All in all, if you haven’t yet, or ever, definitely give a vision board a try.

If you made a vision board for 2024, what was (or would be) on yours?
