Friday Postcard: I’m back ya’ll

somewhere around 30,000 ft near Dallas

SO… Texas was great, so great in fact that all of next week I am dedicating to Texas themed posts. Yay! I’d recap right now except I’ve been kind of busy since I got back and I’ll be working all weekend and working out when I’m not working, so I’ll see ya’ll monday.

And for the record, yes they did say “ya’ll.” Plenty of times so much that I savored every “ya’ll” I heard.  <3

Friday Postcard/FlashBack: Kettleman City, Ca

brokedown palace... Kettleman City

My brand new baby Sentra “Sally” just hit her 40k mark this week, and to commemorate her milestone I’d like to share a funny story with you about my old car…

Once upon a time I used to have a terrible car named Lucifer (it earned the name trust me). Well I decided to push my luck one day and drive down to Los Angeles last minute to party for the night, and then return the next morning since I only had 2 days off work. I must have been stupid (and young, I was 22) because I was going about 100+mph almost the entire way, once I got past Tracy I was in total ‘get there as fast as possible’ mode because the drive to LA from Sac totally blows. By the time I got to LA my car had overheated but I just figured it was because I had driven it for 5 straight hours with one 2 minute pee/gas break. Oh god was I wrong. On my way home hungover the next morning it began overheating as soon as I hit the Grapevine, my only saving grace was that it had just snowed up there so the air was still chilly enough to get me back into the valley. I have friends in Hanford (we call it Hantucky) which is just outside of Fresno and luckily their grandpa was able to meet me in Kettleman City to help me repair the car to get home before my parents found out what I had done. Oh did I mention they had no idea I went? Actually, reading this will be the first time they ever know HAHA, sorry mom and dad.

ANYWAY the moral of the story is, go the speed limit in shitty cars if you’re going to drive to LA without telling anyoneand make sure to bring your camera for when you breakdown and have to wait a few hours.

Lesson Learned. Happy Friday everyone, have a safe weekend, remember your radiator fluid, go the speedlimit, and take some pictures. :)

the getaway

SB Highway 1

I haven’t been in a very post-y mood lately, mostly because I’ve been broke, working a ton so I’m not broke again, and taking care of life in general, but I have been craving a nice little escape. I think I might need to take it sometime soon before the summer is up. Seeing the ocean for a day won’t cut it this time around I think.

This is another picture from that road trip I took with my friend Nathan and his buddy Artimeo. This is somewhere between Monterey and San Luis Obispo. You could see the ocean for miles and it was so bright blue, it really makes me want to go on that drive again, just for the heck of it. Maybe I will soon.

[early] Friday Postcard: cinco de drinko

Olvera Street, Los Angeles

Even though its totally cliche to post something Mexican related on Cinco De Mayo (which is a totally overrated holiday to most actual Mexicans since independence day is in September), I felt it necessary to add my 2 cents. Olvera Street is where it all began in LA, it was THE hub of activity for Los Angeles when LA was still part of Mexico. I got to check it out a couple years ago with some friends and had a good time soaking in the history and walking through some museums. Although its pretty touristy here you can still get a good vibe off of it, and walking around the plaza in front of the entrance to Olvera Street I totally felt like I was in Mexico. In fact just posting about this makes me want to visit Mexico again, but this time in a less touristy spot than Puerto Vallarta.
